Building on a legacy of women’s healthcare design in Atlanta, the Northside Hospital Forsyth Women’s Center redefines the maternity experience through a blend of clinical excellence and hospitality-driven care.
We conceived the Northside Hospital Forsyth Women’s Center as both an extension and evolution of its work with one of the nation’s leading maternity care providers. The project reflects decades of experience shaping environments that support women, infants, and families through some of life’s most meaningful moments.
As Northside expanded into Forsyth County to meet rapid population growth, the design team translated its established expertise into a new suburban context—redefining expectations for what a community-based women’s center could be. The result is a facility that merges advanced clinical care with a hospitality-inspired approach, emphasizing comfort, clarity, and emotional well-being.
Central to the design is a commitment to family-centered care. Private patient rooms, thoughtfully integrated NICU environments, and supportive family spaces foster connection, education, and healing. These spaces reflect a broader shift—one that hrd helped pioneer—toward treating patients and families as active participants in the care experience rather than passive occupants.
The architectural expression reinforces this ethos. Daylight-filled interiors, warm material palettes, and intuitive circulation create a calming, legible environment. Public spaces—defined by layered textures, sculptural lighting, and carefully scaled volumes—balance contemporary design with a timeless sensibility that resonates across generations.
Operational performance is seamlessly embedded within the design, with efficient adjacencies and staff workflows supporting high-quality care delivery. At the same time, the building’s character elevates the patient experience, blurring the line between healthcare and hospitality.
The Forsyth Women’s Center stands as a continuation of hrd’s enduring partnership with Northside and its broader body of work in women’s healthcare. It represents not only a response to growth, but a reaffirmation of the firm’s role in shaping the environments where Atlanta’s families begin—and grow.
