NSH Atlanta - Cherokee Parking Deck

Thoughtfully designed parking infrastructure that blends seamlessly with the surrounding healthcare campus.

As Northside Hospital Cherokee prepared to expand its campus with the addition of Medical Office Building 3, the hospital faced a challenge common to growing healthcare facilities: how to accommodate increased parking demand without compromising the experience of the campus.

The new parking deck was designed to replace parking lost to the new medical office building while also bringing convenient access closer to the main hospital for patients, families, and staff. But the goal was not simply to add parking — the hospital wanted a structure that would feel like a natural extension of the campus rather than a purely utilitarian garage.

The result is a parking facility that thoughtfully integrates with the surrounding architecture through scale, rhythm, and materiality. Architectural precast panels, metal accents, and glass stair towers create a refined façade that mirrors the language of adjacent buildings, allowing the structure to contribute to the visual continuity of the campus rather than detract from it.

Spanning seven levels and 449,947 square feet, the deck provides 1,321 parking spaces to support the hospital’s growing patient population and staff. To improve circulation and user experience, the structure is organized with three levels dedicated to staff parking and five levels serving patients and visitors, ensuring convenient access for those arriving for care.

By approaching the project as both infrastructure and architecture, the Northside Hospital Cherokee Parking Deck demonstrates how functional facilities can enhance the identity and cohesion of a healthcare campus while supporting its future growth.
