NSH Atlanta - Snellville ASC
The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) developed at the Northside Snellville Medical Office building (MOB) is the cornerstone tenant space of the facility.
Developing this space alongside the core & shell MOB project concurrently provided several distinct advantages. These relate not only to the tenant’s proximity to core building functions and components, but also in the provisions that were provided on the MOB to accommodate the ASC.
The more expansive 15’ floor-to-floor of the MOB allowed for conservative sizing of plenums, and maximized ceiling heights throughout the space, both in the preop and PACU areas as well as the operating rooms themselves. Each of the spaces were designed to allow for maximum flexibility while providing consistent design solutions. The layout of all three ORs is organized in the same way to allow for convenience and familiarity for the staff during procedures.
Additionally, each of the preop and PACU bays are designed so that they may fluctuate to serve either programmatic need throughout the day as surge demands dictate. This allows for more efficient throughput of patients throughout the day so that in earlier hours where more patients are admitted, there is capacity, as well as during peak discharge times later in the day. The MOB was designed to also accommodate the dedicated patient discharge area with parking and wheelchair access directly adjacent to the PACU area.
Beyond the core functions of the ASC, special considerations were also made for staff and the support areas with breakrooms and offices taking full advantage of the building’s curtainwall system and exterior visibility, with a separate arrival and delivery process on the opposite side of the suite to separate core functional throughput from the operational ones. This allows for both separate and integrated travel paths at their most efficient junctures, limiting unnecessary cross-traffic or bottlenecking internally to the facility. The result is a fresh, vibrant space that makes patients feel welcome and allows staff to provide the highest standard of care.
